New Delhi, Nov 14 : Children of the Anglo-Arabic School in Ajmeri Gate, New Delhi, enjoyed the screening of Science Safari in the presence of Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Kapil Sibal, on the occasion of the Children's Day today.
Interacting with the children, Sibal stressed the need to understand nature to understand science.
His message to the children is to first think science and then think beyond science to use it for the benefit of society and to bring solutions to the problems of day to day life.
The Minister also formally launched the website www.sciencesafari.org.
Science Safari produced by the Department of Science and Technology in coordination with National Geographic Channel showcases Indian Science and Technology.
The 48-minute film is an eclectic mix of scientific achievements across India and presents various innovations made by well known Indian scientists and some unknown inventors in an interesting travelogue format.
Science Safari is a celebration of the spirit of innovation that inhabits the cities and towns of India. It showcases the spirit of innovation and discovery in the fields of biotechnology, drugs, medicines, stem cells, agriculture, genetic engineering, education, bio-processing, manufacturing, non-conventional energy and more.
Expressing their views on the Science Safari, the students said that it helped them to understand science and also motivated them to take up science as a career option.
Since its launch in September 2006, the film is being screened in several schools across the country to sensitise students to the challenges faced by scientists.
In NCR territory, it is being screened in 86 schools.
