CPI-M welcomes sentencing of RJD MP Shahabuddin

):Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) activists staged a protest in the capital on Wednesday, in which they welcomed a Siwan courts decision to hand down a life sentence to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin for his involvement in the 1999 murder of a CPI (ML) worker.

New Delhi, May 9 :Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) activists staged a protest in the capital on Wednesday, in which they welcomed a Siwan court's decision to hand down a life sentence to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin for his involvement in the 1999 murder of a CPI (ML) worker.

The CPI (ML) said that Shahabuddin should not be allowed to save his skin and urged the apex court to reject his plea for appeasement. They further demanded the suspension of all Members of Parliament involved in the fake passport scam.

Sapan Mukherjee, a Central Committee member of the party, told reporters, "This is the right decision at the right time. We hereby demand to suspend the term of all those MPs who are involved in fake passport scam to save and maintain the dignity of democracy."

The sentencing of Shahabuddin came after eight long years. The family of the murdered victim Chote Lal Gupta, fought for justice from the village of Nonia Toli.

A special court in Siwan, Bihar also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the MP, and has given a month's time to him to appeal in a higher court.

Convicted in two separate criminal cases, Shahbuddin is yet to defend himself in 31 other cases, which are still pending against him.
