Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leaves for Assam

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday left for Assam to file his nomination papers seeking re-election to Rajya Sabha, as his term expires on June 14.

New Delhi, May 8 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday left for Assam to file his nomination papers seeking re-election to Rajya Sabha, as his term expires on June 14.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited the Prime Minister's official residence at 7-Race Course Road to see him off.

Singh is likely to will file his papers on Wednesday in Guwahati.

Election for the Upper House seat will be held on May 24.

Singh has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha for the last three terms.

The Election Commission had issued the notification on April 30, and stated that elections for the Rajya Sabha seat from Assam held by Indramoni Bora would also be held on the same day.The last date for filing nominations is May 14 and the counting of votes will take place on the day of polling.
