The Supreme Court today issued a stay order on a Haridwar court order to attach the property of renowned painter Maqbool Fida Hussain for hurting Hindu sentiments.
New Delhi, May 8 : The Supreme Court today issued a stay order on a Haridwar court order to attach the property of renowned painter Maqbool Fida Hussain for hurting Hindu sentiments.
Tuesday's move came a day after Mumbai Police began attaching Hussain's property.
A bench headed by Justice B. N. Agrawal also issued notices to the complainant in the case on the painter's petition seeking transfer of the case to Delhi.
As Hussain repeatedly failed to respond to the court summons to present himself, Special Judicial Magistrate K. S. Shukla ordered the police to attach Hussain's property
The complainant's counsel, Arvind Shrivastava, had filed a case against Hussain in Haridwar District Court in March 2006 for Hussain's alleged obscene depiction of Hindu goddesses.
The case was transferred nine months later to Shukla's court, who issued a warrant against the painter on January 2.
The last hearing of the case took place on April 13.
