Six policemen, including three Indian Police Service officials, who were arrested in connection with the November 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter and the murder of his wife Kausar Bi, were produced in court on Tuesday.
Ahmedabad, May 8 : Six policemen, including three Indian Police Service officials, who were arrested in connection with the November 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter and the murder of his wife Kausar Bi, were produced in court on Tuesday.
The three IPS officials were brought to the court as their police remand had ended on Tuesday, while the other three policemen who were arrested yesterday, were produced for the CID to seek their remand.
The CID, in the last court hearing, had sought permission to conduct narco-analysis tests on the three IPS officials arrested on April 24 and moved an application in this regard.
The Gujarat Police, on Supreme Court's prodding, had arrested three senior police officers for killing Sohrabuddin Sheikh in a fake encounter.
Sheikh was reportedly gunned down on November 26, 2005 after being branded a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by the Gujarat Police.
Gujarat cadre IPS officers Border Range DIG D G Vanzara and SP (Operations) Rajkumar Pandyan; and Alwar (Rajasthan) SP M N Dinesh Kumar have been arrested in connection with Sheikh case.
The probe revelation has raised a debate across the country over staged encounters by security forces at the behest of political bosses.
