Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to file his nomination for the biennial elections for the Rajya Sabha seat in Assam on Tuesday.

New Delhi, May 7 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to file his nomination for the biennial elections for the Rajya Sabha seat in Assam on Tuesday.

Election for the Upper House seat will be held on May 24.

Singh has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha for the last three terms, and his latest term expires on June 14.

The Election Commission issued the notification on April 30, and stated that elections for the Rajya Sabha seat from Assam held by Indramoni Bora would also be held on the same day.

The last day for the filing the nominations is May 14 and the counting of votes will take place on the day of polling.

By-election to the West Bengal Rajya Sabha seat will also be held on May 24. The seat fell vacant due to the sudden demise of Chittabrata Majumdar.
