UPs pathetic condition is unimaginable: Sonia

Lambasting the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government for ruining the State, Congress Party president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said that no one, including freedom fighters, would have ever imagined of such a decayed condition of UP.

Maharajganj/Salempur, May 5 : Lambasting the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government for ruining the State, Congress Party president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said that no one, including freedom fighters, would have ever imagined of such a decayed condition of UP.

"Uttar Pradesh was once the land of the freedom fighters, but today it is in the hands of the people who are simply destroying it. The freedom fighters, our ancestors would never have thought of such a day. Till the time when there was a Congress Government here, the State was on the wheels of development, but today the situation has changed," said Sonia Gandhi, while speaking at a public meeting at Salempur in Deoria.

Accusing the previous non-Congress Government of the State for indulging in power game, she said: "Since 1967 they have came to power for several times cobbling up without any similarity between two parties. They do politics of opportunism. "

Commenting on the divisive politics carried out by the other political parties, she said: "They have pushed such a great State on the verge of collapse; the communal forces are commanding the State."

"What happened during their regime, the terrorists attacked the Parliament? errorists were not only freed but were escorted to Afghanistan safely. Wherever they are in power the masses are facing problems," she added.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sonia said:"Our leaders were targeted by the anti-Congress people and they became successful to an extent too. They were successful in forming governments at the Centre as well as in the States."

"But what did they give to the people of the country, except for devastation? We lagged behind in every field during their regimes. They spoilt everything, industries were closed," she added.
