Mumbai slums flooded after water pipeline burst

Slums in Mumbai were deluged after water pipeline bursted leading to huge inconvenience to the commuters and the poor people living in the shanties.

Mumbai, May 5 : Slums in Mumbai were deluged after water pipeline bursted leading to huge inconvenience to the commuters and the poor people living in the shanties.

Residents of the 350 odd shanties living near the pipeline say this has become a regular feature and the pipeline has bursted five times in recent past.

"I suppose these pipes are so weak that they need to be replace," said, Binu Verghese, a local.

The maintenance department has begun the pipeline restoration work and the flooding is now under control.

Mumbai, like several other metropolitan cities is suffering from falling civil amenities.

With a population density of around 29,000 persons per square kilometre, Mumbai is one of the most crowded cities in the world.
