Two BSP workers nabbed at Rahul Gandhis hotel in UP

Two Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers, carrying firearms, were arrested from a hotel in Faizabad where Congress MP and Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi was staying.

Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), May 4 : Two Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers, carrying firearms, were arrested from a hotel in Faizabad where Congress MP and Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi was staying.

Rahul, the star campaigner of the Congress, was reportedly staying in the hotel before campaigning for the seventh and final phase of the ongoing UP Assembly polls on Thursday.

They were identified as Pyarelal Jatav and Sangram Jatav.

The duo was caught by the Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel guarding Rahul at the Krishna Palace hotel. "The accused had gone out during the day for election campaigning and when they came back in the evening, they were caught at the entry gate," said A K Shukla, the city police official.

The police said a revolver and a pistol, both licensed, were seized from the duo who hail from Ghaziabad.

The arrested BSP workers maintained that they had the legal license to carry the arms and the incident was a mix up which would be resolved soon.

"If someone is carrying arms for their personal security, they would have license for it. I had the license with me when they caught me and I handed over it to the police authorities. They have sent it for verification," said Pyarelal.
