Finally, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has a reason to smile as Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will open a building and a road in his name this evening.

New Delhi, May 4 : Finally, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has a reason to smile as Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will open a building and a road in his name this evening.

JMI has named its Centre for Distance and Open Learning as the "Arjun Singh Centre for Distance and Open Learning" and a road as "Shahrah-I-Arjun Singh" leading to the Mujeeb Bagh Teachers' Housing Complex.

The Centre will be inaugurated by University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, Professor Sukhadeo Thorat and the road by Jamia Teachers' Association (JTA) President Rais Khan.

Jamia Millia Islamia is an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920. It became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.

In Urdu language, Jamia means 'University', and Millia means 'National'.
