Sikh delegation to meet Governors of Punjab and Haryana

An eleven-member Sikh delegation lead by president of the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Avtar Singh Makkar will meet Punjab Governor General S. Rodrigues and Haryana Governor Dr AR Kidwai today.

Chandigarh, May 31 : An eleven-member Sikh delegation lead by president of the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Avtar Singh Makkar will meet Punjab Governor General S. Rodrigues and Haryana Governor Dr AR Kidwai today.

The delegation will be presenting a memorandum against the activities of the Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) in Punjab.

The delegation also includes representatives of Sant Samaj, Nihangs and other SGPC members.

Meanwhile, Akal Takht, the top religious body of Sikhs will organise a march to protest the alleged 'sacrilege' of Guru Gobind Singh by chief of Dera Sacha Sauda sect Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh.

The march will begin from the historic Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyotiswarup Sahib from where delegation will go to Chandigarh.

Akal Takht has decided to continue boycotting Dera Sacha Sauda, even as the latter has tendered an apology by its leader.

However, members of the Sikh community welcomed the decision, saying the Dera chief should come out openly and apologise.

The community welcomed efforts to maintain peace in the State, while protesting the objectionable action of the sect chief.

Akal Takht has urged the Sikhs to continue social boycott of Dera Sacha Sauda followers and asked the SGPC to pursue legal cases against the Dera chief.

Tight security arrangements have been made to control law and order situation in the State.
