Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shalley Singh, who died while fighting militants in Doda District, was cremated here today with full state honours.

Jammu, May 31 : Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shalley Singh, who died while fighting militants in Doda District, was cremated here today with full state honours.

Terming him as belonging to the' family of martyrs', officials of the State Police said it was a loss to the family, the police force and counter insurgency, since he ranked high among the crack outfits of officials.

"Shalley Singh was one of the best officers. In fact, bravest officer we had in the police force. As a family man, it's a big loss, as police parivar (family) it's a big loss and counter insurgency it's a big loss," said S P Vaid, Inspector General of Police, Jammu.

He was killed during a raid conducted on a hideout of militants at Bhaderwah town in Doda District on Wednesday evening.

Based on intelligence inputs received by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the J and K Police, Shalley Singh had led a team to launch a flushing out operation at Udrana near State Bank of India behind Radio Station.

The police team cordoned off a residential building where three militants were hiding.

Singh was the son of a police inspector who was also killed in a militant encounter.

Singh is credited for eliminating several top militant commanders.
