Arms peddlers arrested in Agartala

Two persons were apprehended with huge quantity of arms and ammunition by Assam Rifles (AR) in Agartala, and have been handed over to police on Wednesday morning.

Agartala, May 31 : Two persons were apprehended with huge quantity of arms and ammunition by Assam Rifles (AR) in Agartala, and have been handed over to police on Wednesday morning.

The AR personnel also handed over the nine sophisticated foreign made firearms including 3 pistols, 5 revolvers and 29 live bullets that were recovered from the arrested people.

The apprehended arms peddlers were identified as Kutti Miah and Bappa Miah.

Acting on a tip-off that an arms deal is going to take place, a team of Assam Rifles with Superintended of Police West Tripura, G S Rao, carried out a special operation at the house of one Mana Das at Math Chowmuhani under East Agartala police station and picked up Bappa and his brother Kutti.

However, some more members of the gang managed to flee from the spot.

Police have initiated charge under illegal possession of firearms against them. The arrested arms dealers have been sent to 14 days of police remand by a local court.

One more suspected person, who has been detained, is presently being interrogated by senior police officials and AR officials.
