Shimla, May 30 : Parliamentarians representing the eight SAARC countries will meet in Shimla on Saturday and Sunday to discuss ways to enhance regional cooperation.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will inaugurate the two-day event titled Towards South Asian Unity. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the keynote address, while his predecessor Yashwant Sinha will address the concluding session.

In all, 87 Parliamentarians will attend the moot, which is being organised by South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA). Shimla has been chosen as the venue because of its association with the parleys on the transfer of power with the British rulers in the 1940s.

SAARC comprises India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Maldives.
