Hyderabad, May 30 : Continuing their attempts to target remotely located hydel power in Andhra Pradesh, Naxals on Tuesday night blew up a control room of a State owned 24 MW power plant at Donkarayi.

Confirming the incident today, police said that about 50 armed-Naxals barged into the control room of the plant and triggered a blast by using their explosives after asking the employees there to vacate the premise.

An assistant engineer sustained head injuries in the blast, and he is presently recuperating, police said.

Naxals' attack on power plants in the State is not new as in 2005 they had blown up Sileru hydel project.

Tuesday's blast left nearby villages devoid of electricity supply.
