New Delhi, May 3 : The Supreme Court will today hear the case of Kausar Bi, the wife of fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh.
The Gujarat Government told the apex court on Monday that Kausar Bi was killed and burnt a few days after Sohrabuddin was killed in November 2005.
The apex court is expected to pass an appropriate order on a habeas corpus petition to produce Kausar Bi.
The State Government said that efforts are on to retrieve Kausar's remains through a DNA test.
Gujarat's Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ranjnish Rai, who was investigating the fake encounter case, has been removed from the process.
According to reports, the State's Director General of Police (DGP) P C Pandey had written a letter to CID ADGP mentioning that Investigating Officer (IO) J B Paderia would not report to Rai.
DIG D G Vanzara is the prime accused along with another Gujarat Police officer Rajkumar Pandyan and Rajasthan Police's Dinesh Kumar. A city court on Tuesday extended the remand of all three to 15 more days.
The police have claimed that Sohrabuddin was a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant and was plotting to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to avenge the death of Muslims in the Gujarat riots in 2002.
Kauser Bi, Sheikh's wife, has been declared missing since the encounter.
