Other states are cruising ahead, UP moving backwards: Rahul Gandhi

Kicking off his campaign for the seventh phase of assembly elections here, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today said that while other states were cruising ahead, Uttar Pradesh was moving backwards because of state government's apathy.

Balia (UP), May 3 : Kicking off his campaign for the seventh phase of assembly elections here, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today said that while other states were cruising ahead, Uttar Pradesh was moving backwards because of state government's apathy.

Addressing a public meeting at the Satish Chandra Inter College, Balia, the Amethi MP once again said that it was very sad to see Uttar Pradesh in such a pathetic state.

"Compare Uttar Pradesh with the rest of the country, you will find a stark difference, while other states are cruising ahead, Uttar Pradesh is moving backwards. This is really sad. The youth of the state are migrating in search of bread and butter. They are contributing to the development of other states like Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra, but are unable to do the same for their own sate. This is because their hands are tied in their own state," said Rahul.

He reiterated that the Samajwadi Party Government in the state has failed miserably in using the development funds provided by the Central Government. Rahul added that the Centre has been trying its best to help Uttar Pradesh develop, but the State Government was not bothered about the same.

"The Central Government has given huge funds to the state for its development, but one fails to understand where is all the money going. The money does not belong to either the State Government or the Central Government, it's yours, you need to know about the expenditure," he said.

Asserting that "gundagardi" has become the order of the day in the state, which lacks "roads, electricity, schools and hospitals", the 37-year-old Congress leader said: "We need to change this, and this and the power, which will do it, is the power of the youth. They will have to take the responsibility and come ahead".

"I promise you that I will work with you for the development of the state. This is not a matter of one election; it's about the development of Uttar Pradesh. We will work together and revive the glory of the state," he added.
