Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has again appointed Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra as the Chairman of the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which was constituted today.

New Delhi, May 3 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has again appointed Professor Vijay Kumar Malhotra as the Chairman of the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which was constituted today.

Several members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have also been elected to serve as Committee members, said a press note issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat

They are Kirit Chaliha, Khagen Das, PS Gadhavi, RL Jalappa, Raghunath Jha, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Rajesh Mishra, Brajesh Pathak, M Ramadass, KS Rao, Mohan Singh, Rajiv Ranjan Lalan Singh, Kharabela Swain, Tarit Baran Topdar from Lok Sabha.

And, V Narayanasamy, P J Kurien, Janardhana Poojary, Suresh Bhardwaj, Prasanta Chatterjee, K Malaisamy, Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy from Rajya Sabha.

The PAC examines the accounts showing the appropriation of the sums granted by Parliament to meet the expenditure of the Government of India, the Annual Finance Accounts of the Government of India and such other accounts laid before the House from time to time.

An important function of the Committee is to ascertain that money granted by Parliament has been spent by Government "within the scope of the demand".
