Human trafficking case: Hyderabad passport agent surrenders

The prime suspect in the human trafficking case, involving suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara, surrendered to the Andhra Pradesh Police here on Thursday.

Hyderabad, May 3 : The prime suspect in the human trafficking case, involving suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara, surrendered to the Andhra Pradesh Police here on Thursday.

Police said that passport agent Rasheed went to the Central Crime Station (CCS) this morning and surrendered before Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) BV Chanra Rao

However, Rasheed maintained innocence by saying that he had nothing to do with the case and was being dragged into it as part of a conspiracy.

Rasheed's name came into light when TRS MLA K Lingiah, who is in police custody, claimed that the former helped him to obtain a passport for a woman from Gujarat on his wife Tara's name.

Interestingly, Rasheed was arrested in a fake passport case in 2003.

The case, involving some high profile people, surfaced last month with the arrest of Katara at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. He was taking one Paramjeet to Canada on his wife Sarada Ben's passport.
