Assassinations of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv and Olof Palme linked to Bofors: Website

An Indian website has claimed that the assassinations of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and their Swedish counterpart Olof Palme were connected with the Bofors gun controversy.

New Delhi, May 3 : An Indian website has claimed that the assassinations of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and their Swedish counterpart Olof Palme were connected with the Bofors gun controversy.

In a follow up story, the website, politicsparty.com, says that in 1984 India was set to acquire the French Sofma gun, as it was cheaper than many others in the race, including the Bofors gun.

But before the deal could have been inked, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated. The website claims that it was a part of a major conspiracy, as had Indira not been killed, the Bofors gun would not have been purchased.

It further says that later Rajiv Gandhi and Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme became close friends and the two negotiated the Bofors deal. However, the Indian PM asked his Swedish counterpart to revise price of the deal.

The Bofors gun was ultimately bought by India and allegations of kickbacks were made. Both Rajiv Gandhi and Olof Palme fell victims to hush up the controversy, says the website.
