Srinagar, May 29 : Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday baton-charged public sector employees of the State, who were demanding timely payment of wages.

Protestors shouted slogans and took out a march in Srinagar, saying they had not received their wages for the past several months.

The police had to baton-charge the protesters to disperse them. Scores of them were also arrested.

The protesting employees pulled up the state administration, accusing it of making policies highly inimical to the sector.

"All the public sector employees have been working without salary for the past six months. We do not get any dearness allowance like the Government employees. Nor do we get salary in time," said Ali Mohammad, a protesting employee.

Workers union have held several protests in the recent past demanding the release of their allowance, which has already been accepted by the State government.

More than 25,000 people are engaged in the public sector units of the state.
