Mansarovar Yatra to begin from June 1

Preparations for Kailsah Mansarovar Yatra have completed and it is all set to begin from June 1.

Dehradun, May 27 : Preparations for Kailsah Mansarovar Yatra have completed and it is all set to begin from June 1.

According to officials, 16 batches of pilgrims, each batch having 45 pilgrims, have been selected for pilgrimage this year.

"The first batch would begin its journey on June 1 from New Delhi and last batch would complete its pilgrimage on September 27," tourist officer of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam D K Pandey said.

The External Affairs Ministry along with other agencies like the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) organizes the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash - Mansasrovar through the Indian side.

Hundreds of devotees trek the mountain path every year to the twin shrines that fall on either side of Indian border. The yatra season starts in early June and the last batch starts the pilgrimage as late as end of August.

Mount Kailash, considered as an abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and Mansarovar, said to have been created by Brahma.

After 1962 Indo-China war, the pilgrimage resumed in 1981.
