CPI-M suspends Achuthanandan and Vijayan from its politburo

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today suspended both Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan and its State unit secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, from its politburo.

New Delhi, May 26 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today suspended both Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan and its State unit secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, from its politburo.

The decision was taken in the wake of reports of continuous infighting between the two leaders over demolition of encroachments in Munnar and other areas of the state.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government headed by the CPI-M had started razing illegal constructions on public land across the state, including a hill resort, which has angered the state unit of the CPI-M and some of its constituents.

The Kerala Government had declared the Munnar hill resort as a special zone and froze all constructions.

More than 10,000 hectares of forestland is believed to have been encroached by people, including political leaders and film stars.

Vijayan attacked Achuthanandan blaming him of taking personal credit for the demolition drive.

Achuthanandan on the other hand blamed Vijiyan for leaking party information to the media.

Both leaders have been accusing each other of breaking party rules.
