Police baton-charged an angry mob, while they were protesting against policemens alleged laxity into the investigation of murder of a local businessman.
Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), May 25 : Police baton-charged an angry mob, while they were protesting against policemen's alleged laxity into the investigation of murder of a local businessman.
According to officials, protesters provoked policemen to baton charge.
"We were listening to their problems but these people started pelting stones and broke glasses of vehicles. We had to resort to baton charging because of this," Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ambikapur S P Tewari said.
However, the villagers said that they were peacefully demanding the killers of Vijay Devnath, who was killed by some men, be brought to justice.
Villagers said that according to police Devnath died due to injury in a road accident.
According to reports say at least 20 people were injured, four of them seriously due to baton charging.
