Army court sentences soldier to death

An Army court has sentenced to death Satyam Kumar, a soldier belonging to the Signal Regiment, for killing his fellow senior in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, May 25 : An Army court has sentenced to death Satyam Kumar, a soldier belonging to the Signal Regiment, for killing his fellow senior in Jammu and Kashmir.

On May 18, summary general court martial at Udhampur-based Northern Command headquarters pronounced capital punishment on 20-year-old Kumar.

Kumar had shot dead Havaldar Padmamrajan on October 28, 2006. He was posted with Northern Command in Jammu and Kashmir at the time of the incident.

The court martial termed this as the 'rarest of the rare case'.

It said the soldier fired at his senior without any provocation and killed him in cold blood.

Kumar's execution is subject to confirmation by the Ministry of Defence.

In February, an Army court sentenced to death, Sepoy K C Behra for shooting dead Lieutenant Colonel Saket Sharma.
