The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to a Jammu and Kashmir Reconstruction Plan for earthquake affected areas at a cost of Rs.635.88 crore to be implemented over a period of two years i.e. 2006-07 and 2007-08.

New Delhi, May 24 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to a Jammu and Kashmir Reconstruction Plan for earthquake affected areas at a cost of Rs.635.88 crore to be implemented over a period of two years i.e. 2006-07 and 2007-08.

It also sanctioned additional central assistance to the state for implementing the Reconstruction Plan in the form of grant component of Rs.572.29 crore and loan component of Rs.63.59 crore.

Clearance was also given for the release of a grant of Rs.150.00 crore during 2006-07 and Rs.146.58 crore during 2007-08, to Jammu and Kashmir, totaling a net grant of Rs.296.58 crore.

The Cabinet felt that by this assistance, Jammu and Kashmir to undertake long-term reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure including housing.
