Dera Sacha Sauda expects Punjab Government to act impartially

Reacting to a hukumnama (decree) by Akal Takht Chief Jathedar Joginder Vedanti, asking Dera Sacha Sauda to close down its branches in Punjab by May 27, the Dera Sacha Sauda today appealed to the Akali Dal Government in Punjab to act impartially.

Sirsa, May 21 : Reacting to a hukumnama (decree) by Akal Takht Chief Jathedar Joginder Vedanti, asking Dera Sacha Sauda to close down its branches in Punjab by May 27, the Dera Sacha Sauda today appealed to the Akali Dal Government in Punjab to act impartially.

"We expect the Government to discharge its rajdharma," Dera spokesman Pankaj Insaan said.

'Vacating the deras (sect campuses) is out of the question," Insaan added.

He also said that this situation wouldn't have occurred, if the Prakash Singh Badal Government had taken the required action.

He blamed the State Government for not bringing all concerned parties to the negotiating table.

The Dera Sacha Sauda reiterated that it has the highest regard for all religions and guruships of all religions.

Insaan said that Dera followers would take the path of peace to register their voice and would not react to violence.

"We will not react with violence. We will seek legal recourse to the developments of the day," he said.

Responding to the Akal Takht's decree, the Dera has decided to organise blood donation camps by its followers from Monday.

The Akal Takht has also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the charges against DSS chief Baba Ram Raheem Singh of sexual exploitation and conspiracy to murder Sirsa journalist Ram Chandra Chhatrapati.

The State Government, which is said to be close to the Akal Takht, is in a catch-22 situation as it has to maintain law and order situation and provide security to all Deras in view of the demand for their closure.

Punjab has witnessed sporadic violence since May 14, after Baba Ram Raheem Singh reportedly dressed up as Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs.

Security has been beefed up across the state following the protests.

Apart from the state police, over 10,000-armed paramilitaries have been sent to Punjab and Haryana. The army has also been placed on alert.
