Centre issues fresh advisory to Punjab

The Union Home Ministry today issued a fresh advisory to the Punjab government asking it to take all necessary steps to maintain law and order in view of Tuesdays bandh called by Akal Takht.

New Delhi, May 21 : The Union Home Ministry today issued a fresh advisory to the Punjab government asking it to take all necessary steps to maintain law and order in view of Tuesday's bandh called by Akal Takht.

Earlier, the ministry had sent two advisories to the State government and 35 companies of para-military force in view of the sectarian conflicts that erupted last week after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Raheem appeared in newspaper advertisements allegedly impersonating as the tenth guru of Sikh, guru Gobind Singh.

The violence that followed has led to death of one person and several others have been injured.

Dera chief's regret has been rejected by the Sikh leaders, who have demanded public apology from him and closure of all deras by May 27.
