11 people arrested in Chennai for possessing fake passports

The police today arrested 11 persons for attempting to fly abroad with fake passports and visas from Chennai airport.

Chennai, May 20 : The police today arrested 11 persons for attempting to fly abroad with fake passports and visas from Chennai airport.

They were arrested at the check-in counter when the emigration officials realised that the passports they possessed were fake.

The detained persons hailed from Trichy, Ramnad and Pudukottai districts of the State and were planning to reach Europe in search of jobs.

" We gave two and a half lakhs of rupees to the broker to procure the passport. The broker promised us to fly down to London via Malaysia. But he again demanded around two and a half lakhs of rupees and later we found that the broker ran away with all our money and finally my son got the passport from Delhi travel agent after paying Rs.12,000. And today morning my son was caught in an attempt to fly to foreign land with a fake passport and visa," said Marimuthu, father of an arrested person.

Later in the day, all the eleven arrested were produced before a local court, which sent them to 15 days of judicial remand.
