Kolkata, May 20 : A kindergarten school in Kolkata has made attending school great fun. Be it the theme-based classrooms or a teaching environment full of real life objects, studying here appears a celebration of childhood while studying.

Located in Pratapgarh, on the outskirts of Kolkata , the B. D. Memorial School, has used various fairy tale characters for its decor

The innovative method provides a break from the traditional book-learning in an all enticing environment inside the classrooms.

Managed by the B. D. Memorial Institute, the school has been designed using characters like the Pied Piper, the German Rapunzel, those of Jack and Jill and Humpty Dumpty from nursery rhymes.

Specially designed theme-based classrooms exist like the Birthday Room, Farm Room and the Railway Station Room.

The Birthday Room, the chairs and desks have been shaped like gifts, the Farm Room has drawings of animals and birds on drawn on the walls and the Railway Station Room's walls features common scenes at the railway station.

One of the classrooms has a special toy aircraft that fascinates all students. Kids enjoy sitting inside this specially prepared toy airplane, feeling as if were on a flight.

"I love my school because there is a jungle room, activity room. We have a plane and field," said Sarthak Das, a student.

According to school authorities, the pictures, songs and dances are all curriculum and assignment-based.

"When we show these theme rooms to the children, they get to see everything before their eyes which is syllabus and assignment-based. So, theme rooms give them a picture before them what they read in their books. But instead of making them learn from boring books, we teach them through theme rooms," said Tilottama Dasgupta, one of the teachers at the school.

The school's objective is to provide necessary ambience to children to enjoy their childhood to the fullest taking them a close to real life objects and places.

"Nowadays we notice, children painstakingly carrying heavy bags. But I wanted that they should come to school with just a tiffin box and water bottle. And everything should be taught in the school environment," said Usha Mehta, the Principal of the B. D. Memorial School.

The innovative method to teach kids in this fashion intends to develop a special liking for studies and enthusiasm among the students in their childhood instead of making it an irritating daily exercise of carrying heavy schoolbags, says another teacher.
