President A P J Abdul Kalam will visit Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar District today to attend a programme on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

Lucknow, May 2 : President A P J Abdul Kalam will visit Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar District today to attend a programme on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

During his one-day visit, Kalam will address monks assembled in the ceremony to mark the 2550th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha at Lilavati stadium.

Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti is widely celebrated, on a full moon night. The Buddha was born on the full-moon day in the month of Vaisakh in 563 BC. He achieved enlightenment as well as nirvana on the same date.

Besides, he will also inaugurate a Thai hospital and make a visit to Ramabhar Stupa there.

Kalam is also scheduled to visit Parinirvaan Mandir to release 'Vhoti Hindi' dictionary.

Later, he will visit Pratapgarh to take a look at an 'anwala' orchard and inspect its processing at the Integrated Agricultural Production in Sarai Sultani.

The President will also address farmers and participate in an event related to the Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) in the Raniganj area of the district.
