At least five persons were killed and 15 others injured in a blast at a mosque in the busy Charminar area here on Friday.

Hyderabad, May 18 : At least five persons were killed and 15 others injured in a blast at a mosque in the busy Charminar area here on Friday.

The blast reportedly occurred inside the Mecca Masjid, about 10 meters from Charminar, at around 1.30 p.m.

The area was crowded when the blast occurred. Thousands had gathered for Friday prayers.

The injured were rushed to Osmania Hospital.

The area has been cordoned off and police have launched search operations, reports said.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has called a high level meet.

Reddy, who is in Delhi, has appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony.
