Three persons were killed and several others injured in a blast at a private ammunition factory in Dehradun on Thursday morning.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), May 17 : Three persons were killed and several others injured in a blast at a private ammunition factory in Dehradun on Thursday morning.

Nearly a dozen fire tenders were pressed in to service to douse the fire caused by the blast.

Police said the blast, occurred around 7.30 a.m. in the storeroom that stored explosives.

"Blast occurred in a room in which the explosives were stored. Three people died in the blast and three injured were sent to the hospital. Others with minor injuries were also given treatment," said Ram Singh Meena, Deputy Inspector General, Garwal Range of Uttarakhand.

The survivors say at least ten people were inside the factory when the blast occurred.

"We don't know what happened. We ran as soon as we heard the blast. Three people are dead. We were ten people in there," said Govind Singh, an injured.

Authorities said about 150 kilogram of explosives were stored in the room.

Further investigation are on to ascertain the cause of the blast.
