Manmohan Singh elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was today declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, from Assam, for the fourth consecutive term.

Guwahati, May 17 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was today declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, from Assam, for the fourth consecutive term.

State Assembly Secretary and Returning officer, G P Das made the announcement of Singh's election.

Singh's election came after the third contestant for the two Rajya Sabha seats, Matang Singh, an independent candidate withdrew his candidature today, the last day for withdrawal of candidature.

Former Minister and Asom Gana Parishad nominee, Kumar Deepak won the second seat making his entry into the Upper House for the first time. ingh's current term in Rajya Sabha ends on June 14.
