Find ways to uproot root cause of extremism: President Kalam

President A P J Abdul Kalam today called for finding new ways and means of rooting out the fundamental causes of extremism.

Kolkata, May 17 : President A P J Abdul Kalam today called for finding new ways and means of rooting out the fundamental causes of extremism.

Speaking at the conference on the development of East and North East India, Kalam said, "I believe that humanity as a whole has to work with focused national and regional missions which itself will be a major unifying factor and pave the way for peace and prosperity to the whole nation."

"Prosperity of nations is important for the prosperity of the world and to avoid conflicts and war. The centuries of learning from different civilizations should enable us to formulate ideas and systems to bring prosperity and reduce disparities," he added.

He said that there is an urgency to improve the conditions of rural life, particularly in east and North East part of the country, as majority people here live in villages.

He said that this could be achieved by better physical connectivity, electronic connectivity, and knowledge connectivity that will together lead to comprehensive economic connectivity.

"Knowledge platform for eastern states will combine the core competencies of all the states in the region and will become the launch pad for many innovations that are waiting to be unearthed only by the combined power of all the scientists and technologists drawn from this region," he added.
