Muslim women demand justice in Gujarat fake encounter case

Muslim women staged protest here on Wednesday demanding justice for Kausar Bi, Sohrabuddin Sheikhs wife, who was also allegedly killed by top police officials of Gujarat.

New Delhi, May 16 : Muslim women staged protest here on Wednesday demanding justice for Kausar Bi, Sohrabuddin Sheikh's wife, who was also allegedly killed by top police officials of Gujarat.

Holding placards, women protesters under the banner of India Peace Organization (IPO) shouted slogans against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, demanding his resignation and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the fake encounter case.

"We demand a CBI inquiry into the case and the case should be taken from Gujarat government as they are like the Milosevics of Bosnia, who used to kill Muslims," said Begum Fatima Shahnaz, President of India Peace Organisation

The Gujarat Government had admitted in the Supreme Court that Sohrabuddin was killed in a fake encounter with the police officials.

The Government also informed the court that Kausar Bi, who went missing after the incident, was also killed.

Investigating officials say there was no evidence-linking Sohrabuddin to any assassination plot. His wife, who witnessed the killing, was allegedly locked in a bungalow for days, tortured and later murdered.

Three top police officials D G Vanjara and Rajkumar Pandyan, and Rajasthan Police SP Dinesh Kumar were arrested last month, for their involvement in the fake encounter of a Muslim, Sohrabuddin on November 26, and later his wife Kausar Bi in the same month.

Police had then claimed Sohrabuddin was an operative of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba and was planning to assassinate Narendra Modi.
