Huge quantities of ammunition were gutted in a fire that broke out in a local police station here today.

Srinagar, May 16 : Huge quantities of ammunition were gutted in a fire that broke out in a local police station here today.

There has been no report of any casualty.

"We were talking among ourselves and there was a huge blast, there was smoke and mud all around. We ran outside and then saw there was fire and continuous blast and firing was taking place. For around 10-20 minute's blasts continued," said Surender Pal, an eyewitness.

According to police, the fire started from a kitchen in the police station, where food was being prepared, and soon it spread to the entire complex and the ammunition dump.

An investigation has been launched to probe into the incident.
