New Delhi, Delhi, India
Reebok, the world's leading sports brand, launched its ground-breaking global movement, 'Run Easy', in India. The campaign was recently flagged off by Mr. Subhinder Singh Prem, Managing Director, Reebok India with the 'Run Easy' Run at Leisure Valley, Gurgaon.
In a move to encourage consumers to join the global 'Run Easy' campaign; ten thousand pairs of shoes will be given away in the first phase. Reebok 'Run Easy' Vans, with their expert trainers will move around popular jogger parks in select cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore demonstrating the spirit of 'Run Easy'. The trainers will start with warm ups followed by short runs where in critical aspects like breathing patterns, foot movements etc would be taught.
Why Running?
In addition to being the largest global category in the footwear industry at roughly nine billion dollars, Running is also a sport which is best suited to India. It's a common man's sport and the most economical one, all you need is a pair of running shoes and a running track. You don't have to be a part of any club or sports center and you are not limited by time, you can run anytime of the day and anywhere you like. Running is the easiest and the most refreshing sport. Just wear your running shoes and RUN EASY.
In a nation which is dominated by cricket Reebok wants to create and evolve a sport which would involve the consumer directly and not just as viewers.
With Reebok's three award winning collections of footwear in running i.e. Premier Running, Versatec Running and Vision Running, Reebok is equipped with the right technologies and the price points to cater to the need of the serious runner as well as the consumer who has just started running.
"The Reebok 'Run Easy' movement is a unique initiative aiming to redefine people's perception about running as a sport merely for the fittest. We want to enhance our association with consumers of all levels of athletic ability and want to promote running as every one's sport", commented Mr. Subhinder Singh Prem, Managing Director, Reebok India at the launch in Delhi.
Most Indians have been put off the sport off running for a variety of reasons including the fear that they need to be competitive in order to participate. In opposition to the prevalent, 'no pain, no gain theory', Reebok highlights its core message, 'run at the speed of chat'. The campaign objective is to promote running as a fun sport and leisure, as it doesn't require athletic qualities for participation. You hit no 'walls' real or imaginary while running easy.
The Television commercial features celebrities from around the world showing how they 'Run Easy', including basketball legend Allen Iverson, soccer standout Thierry Henry, track and field stars Carolina Kluft and Aries Merritt, football icons Vince Young, Chad Johnson and DeAngelo Hall, tennis phenomenon Nicole Vaidisova, acclaimed actress Emmanuelle Chriqui, cricket stars Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni and street skateboarder Stevie Williams. The campaign drives home the message that running should be about enjoying the ride.
"It's about time to make a bold stance and bring the fun back into running and invite consumers of all levels of athletic ability to participate", said Subhinder Singh Prem, Managing Director, Reebok "Through our 'Run Easy' movement, Reebok is defying the way competitor brands position running as a 'push-the-limits' ideal".
"Meeting up with friends to run easy and chat together the whole way makes running something I look forward to doing", said Nicole Vaidisova, the youngest tennis player currently ranked in the top ten. "When you run easy, running becomes a more relaxing and enjoyable activity", echoed Carolina Kluft, the number one ranked female heptathlete in the world.
"Why hit that wall if it hurts? Just run easy", said basketball legend Allen Iverson. "When I run easy, it gives me a chance to take in the sights around me, which makes running a lot more fun", noted football icon DeAngelo Hall.
The Reebok 'Run Easy' Movement
Reebok's 'Run Easy' movement kicks off with an aggressive media campaign starting 12th May featuring advertising created by New York agency, Mcgarry Bowen. Television spots, directed by acclaimed award-winning director, Frank Budgen, will begin airing on TV on 18th May.
Reebok's 'Run Easy' television spot celebrates the joy of social running "at the speed of chat". Each celebrity depicted in the campaign participates in a non-linear conversation seamlessly intertwined to create one fun story. Demonstrating that consumers can 'Run Easy' anywhere around the world, the campaign was shot on beaches, city streets and parks in some of the world's top cities, including London and Los Angeles.
About GoRunEasy.com
Bringing the 'Run Easy' movement to the masses in a meaningful way that especially resonates with young consumers, Reebok created the website GoRunEasy.com. Co-developed by Watertown agency Molecular and Carat Fusion in Boston, GoRunEasy.com launched on May 2nd and is the most comprehensive website Reebok has ever created. Featuring a first-of-its-kind 'mashup' between Reebok, Google maps and Flickr, GoRunEasy.com allows consumers to map out and share their favourite running routes and also post scenery snapshots of the coolest sights to take in while on the run. In addition, GoRunEasy.com features a community where consumers can upload music playlists, join discussion groups with other runners and watch some of today's hottest celebrities demonstrating the art of "running at the speed of chat".
