New Delhi, May 14 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is likely to review agricultural and rural distress issues, during a full meeting of the Planning Commission here today.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), after today's meeting and the meeting of the National Development Council, slated for May 29, Dr. Singh will tour farm distress districts of the country.
Most expectedly, he will start his tour to the agri-distressed districts of Andhra Pradesh.
During his tour to Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar might accompany the Prime Minister.
Monday's meeting is most likely to concentrate on area-specific programmes for procuring optimal crop yield and increasing the country's agricultural growth rate.
The meeting will also draw an agricultural strategy for the Eleventh Plan.
As per the reports, Dr. Singh has had consultations and meetings with agricultural economists and experts to develop a strategy to control the national agrarian crisis.
