The Gujarat Government will submit its report in connection with the Sohrabbudin Sheikh fake encounter case today.

New Delhi, May 14 : The Gujarat Government will submit its report in connection with the Sohrabbudin Sheikh fake encounter case today.

The apex court had directed the Gujarat Government to submit the final report in the case in two weeks' time and said that there was no need for a CBI inquiry into the case for the time being.

The Gujarat Government had admitted in the apex court about the death of Kausar Bi, wife of the fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin. She was first killed and then her corpse was burnt, a few days after her husband was killed in a fake encounter.

The court's final order is expected on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a two-member Gujarat Crime Investigation Department (CID) team headed by Inspector General of Police Geeta Johri has started investigation in connection with the role of Andhra Pradesh police in the case.

However, the Andhra Pradesh police are denying any involvement in the case.

The team has already submitted its report to the apex court.

The probe led to the arrest of three IPS officers arrested in the case are - DIG (Border Range) DG Vanzara, Pandian and Alwar Superintendent MN Dinesh Kumar.

Vanzara and Pandian were part of the team that carried out the fake encounter of Sheikh. They have also been accused of killing Sheikh's wife Kausar Bi.

Sheikh was reportedly gunned down on November 26, 2005 after being branded a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by the Gujarat Police, allegedly trying to hatch a conspiracy to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The probe revelation has raised a debate across the country over staged encounters by security forces at the behest of political bosses.
