New Delhi, May 14 : The Parliament today got adjourned as both the Houses, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, witnessed uproar over the issue of Babli dam, being built across the Godavari River in Nanded District of Maharashtra.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed three adjournments in the pre-lunch session over the issue and after the lunch break both the houses were adjourned for the day.
For the last few days the Parliament proceeding were being halt, on issues of Nandigram firing and Gujarat fake encounter, because of the hullabaloo raised by Congress, Rahstriya Janata Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party MPs.
Today, Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) MPs took the charge and raised the issue of Babli dam. They alleged that the Maharashtra Government was constructing the dam across the Godavari River "illegally" and shouted that the construction would hit the flow of water to Andhra Pradesh (AP).
K Yerrannaidu, the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, initiated the protest and he along with his party men were on their feet as soon as the House assembled.
In the Rajya Sabha too, the party's MPs demonstrated over the impact of Babli dam on the AP farmers.
Earlier last month, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had directed Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz to discuss the contentious issue of Babli project with the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra and "facilitate an amicable solution".
