Muslims in Tamil Nadu decry Gujarat fake killings

Over 700 protesters belonging to the Dowath Jamath, a Muslim organisation in Tamil Nadu, stage a protest against the fake encounters in Gujarat on Friday evening.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), May 12 : Over 700 protesters belonging to the Dowath Jamath, a Muslim organisation in Tamil Nadu, stage a protest against the fake encounters in Gujarat on Friday evening.

They demanded the dismissal of the Narendra Modi Government.

"Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in connivance with the police officials, is out to eliminate Muslims. So, he should be dismissed. This protest by the Tamil Nadu Jamaat is a symbol of that and we will continue our struggle until the dismissal of the Modi Government. The tainted officers of the police service should be punished," said Jaffer Ali, the General Secretary of the Dowath Jamath.

The Gujarat Government's role in the staged killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi, besides another unidentified man in November 2005, was denounced.

Three senior police officers - - D.G. Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandyan from Gujarat and Dinesh Kumar M.N. from Rajasthan Police were arrested last month for the death of Shiekh, Kausar Bi and the third unknown man, after the Government of Gujarat confirmed the crime before the Supreme Court.

Gujarat Police have claimed that Sheikh was a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative, and was planning to assassinate Modi. The fake encounters have triggered a nation wide debate over such staged killings by security forces at the behest of their political bosses.
