A Mayawati and B R Ambedkar leading in UP polls

Few may take notice in the heat of the electoral battle for control of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, but there is a Mayawati and a B R Ambedkar contesting the State polls, both on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) tickets.

New Delhi, May 11 : Few may take notice in the heat of the electoral battle for control of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, but there is a Mayawati and a B R Ambedkar contesting the State polls, both on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) tickets.

BSP supremo Mayawati has opted this time not to contest the polls, but she has a namesake contesting the elections from the Srinagar constituency, and this second Mayawati has taken a handsome lead over her opponents.

Ambedkar's namesake - Bheem Rao Ambedkar - is a 39-year-old contesting from the Lakhana constituency.

He may not have the well known qualities associated with the architect of the Indian Constitution, but this Ambedkar is apparently holding out on his own.

Ambedkar is facing competition from nine other contestants, Congress's Chandrashekhar Diwakar, BJP's K K Raj and Samajwadi Party's Sukh Devi Verma, besides six independents.

He is an SC candidate and a resident of Etawah District's Bazaria Talab Pukhta area.
