Somnath for MPs' opinion against tainted members

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today called for Parliamentarians' opinions against the tainted members.

Kolkata, May 1 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today called for Parliamentarians' opinions against the tainted members.

"I depend on the goodness of the members of the House. Everybody who does not like it, should express it in proper manner which may have some influence on them," Chatterjee said while replying to a question on how he would deal with tainted members.

His statement comes in the wake of alleged involvement of suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara in a human trafficking case.

Rajendra Kumar Gampa, an aide of Katara, had confessed that apart from Katara, MPs Mitrasen, Ashok Yadav and Kiran Dhar were aware about their letterheads being used for the purpose.

Last week, Katara was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport while taking one Paramjeet to Canada on his wife, Sarada Ben's, passport.

Last year too some MPs were discharged form the Loka Sabha over cash-for-query and illegalities involved in the usage of MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds.
