Gujarat fake encounter: DSP Amin granted anticipatory bail

Ahmedabad Sessions Court on Saturday granted anticipatory bail to a Deputy Superintendent of Police of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), N K Amin alleged to be involved in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Ahmedabad, June 9 : Ahmedabad Sessions Court on Saturday granted anticipatory bail to a Deputy Superintendent of Police of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), N K Amin alleged to be involved in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

However Amin has been asked to report to the Central Investigation Department (CID) within three days, as earlier he was not responding to the summons by the CID.

The court has also ordered him not to influence any witness, since Inspector General of Police Geeta Johri, who has been given complete independence to investigate the case by the Supreme Court, had said in the court that Amin was trying to influence witnesses.

The present probe has led to the arrest of three police officers - DIG (Border Range) DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Alwar Superintendent MN Dinesh Kumar.

Vanzara and Pandian were part of the team that killed Sohrabuddin Sheikh. They have also been accused of killing his wife, Kausar Bi.

Sohrabuddin was reportedly gunned down on November 26, 2005 after being branded a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by the Gujarat Police, allegedly trying to hatch a conspiracy to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
