100-member youth delegation to visit China on 10-day trip

Union Panchayati Raj, and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today said that a 100-member youth delegation, led by the Department of North-East Region (DoNER), will visit China from June 7 to 16.

New Delhi, June 5 : Union Panchayati Raj, and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar today said that a 100-member youth delegation, led by the Department of North-East Region (DoNER), will visit China from June 7 to 16.

Prior to the visit, a two-day workshop was held in New Delhi from June 4 to 5, to select youth for this delegation.

Speaking at the valedictory session of the workshop, Aiyar said that the 100 young boys and girls selected for this delegation are among the best and brightest of the generation.

The selection process was very vigorous and various categories of delegates have been selected, said Aiyar.These categories include: scholars of China from India, scholars of other disciplines who have distinguished themselves in their field, young entrepreneurs, distinguished social workers, bravery award winners, sportspersons distinguished in Table Tennis and Badminton, cultural artists, dancers, musicians, singers and those who hold elected position in local Government.

Two physically challenged youth are also members of the delegation, added Aiyar.

He also expressed confidence that this visit will further cement ties between the two countries.

On its part, the Chinese Government and the All China Youth Federation has drawn up a very interesting calendar of places of visit during the youth delegation' stay in China.

Starting from Beijing, they not only meet the First Secretary of the Communist Youth League of China and Honorary President of the All China Youth Federation, visits are also arranged to see the Tsinghua University as well as the "Bird's Nest" - the main Olympic stadium, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China.

They will meet the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, closing the evening with a reception hosted by India's Ambassador to China.

The youth delegation will then stop over at Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province and interact with the students of Yunnan university and visit pharmaceutical companies as well as the World Horticulture Expo.

Last but not the least a very interesting visit has been planned to see the Nationalities' Village.
