A special TADA court today sentenced two convicts in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case to life imprisonment.

Mumbai, June 5 : A special TADA court today sentenced two convicts in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case to life imprisonment.

Special judge P D Kode sentenced three other convicts to rigorous imprisonment ranging from five to 14 years.

The court awarded Parvez Qureshi life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. He has been sentenced for conspiracy, and aiding and abetting a terrorist act.

The court held that Qureshi was to throw hand grenades at the fishermen's colony in Mahim, but backed out at the last moment.

Salim Mirza Shaikh was sentenced to life imprisonment apart from a fine of Rs two lakh for attending a meeting between absconding accused Mohammed Dossa and customs officials at the Persian Durbar restaurant.

Former bodyguard of prime accused Tiger Memon, Manoj Gupta was sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 2.75 lakh.

Noor Mohammed Khan was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for five years, besides a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. He was convicted for storing RDX at his godown in suburban Kashimira.

Travel agent Altaf Ali Sayyed was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and told to pay a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh for illegal possession of two suitcases containing about 100 hand grenades.
