Gujarats coastal areas have been put on high alert following a cyclone warning.
Porbandar, June 27 : Gujarat's coastal areas have been put on high alert following a cyclone warning.
Porbandar District Magistrate H N Chibbar said that villages in all coastal areas have been alerted and all precautionary measures have been taken.
"There is absolute preparation to handle any situation. The State Government and the national Met (Meteorological) department are providing us constant updates on the weather," Chibbar said.
Strong winds blowing at the speed of 45-60 kilometres per hour, and heavy rain during the last three days have brought life to almost a standstill in the region.
"The water is rising quite a lot here and even the electricity goes off at night," said Manish Dawda, a local.
Over 1,000 people were killed when a severe cyclone hit the state in 1998.
