New Delhi, June 26 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today warned Congress-led UPA government about the 'serious consequences' of the Indo-US civilian nuclear energy cooperation and asked it not to clinch the deal by compromising on vital issues.
"The party is of the firm opinion that the Hyde Act passed by the US Congress sets terms and conditions not acceptable for the nuclear agreement," a statement from the CPI (M) stated after its conclusion of the Central Committee meeting.
The party, which supports the UPA government at the Centre from outside said that such an agreement would have permanent repercussions on country's national interests and foreign policy.
It also said that the party would discuss with other Left parties on the approach to be taken vis-a-vis the UPA government, particularly on important policy issues and problems affecting the people.
CPI (M) has already criticised Centre for failing to check price rise and the growing agrarian crisis.
