Forest authorities have captured a leopard from the Matidhar tea-estate near Siliguri after being informed of its sighting by the Matidhar management.
Sukma (West Bengal), June 26 : Forest authorities have captured a leopard from the Matidhar tea-estate near Siliguri after being informed of its sighting by the Matidhar management.
The leopard is presently lodged in the Sukma Animal Rescue Center.
"We had laid the trap five days ago and we caught the leopard. The doctors have examined him and pronounced him to be fit," said Neelanjana Mitra, Assistant Divisional Forest Officer, Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.
Last year, a five-year-old leopard and two cubs were captured in the tea-estate.
The leopard population is distributed across India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh and southern China.
